Brief Description

Puli inji which is better known as tamarind-ginger pickle is a delicious pickle recipe. It goes really well with rice, paranthas and can even be used as a spread on sandwiches.

Ingredients For Puli Inji

  • Ginger- ¼ kg
  •  10 Fresh Green chili
  • Tamarind- 2 inch piece
  • Salt as required
  • 1tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp  powdered Jaggery
  • Oil as needed
  •  ½ tsp Mustard seed

How To Make Puli Inji

  • Finely chop or grate the gingers and chilies.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan and put in the mustard seeds.  Once the mustard seeds start spluttering, add chilies, ginger and turmeric powder.
  • Now extract the juice/ pulp of tamarind and add to the pan. Combine all the ingredients well and add salt.  Ring it all to a boil and cook till it gets a thick consistency. 
  • Before taking it off the flames add jaggery and mix it well. Adding jaggery is optional, so you may or may not add it depending on what you like.
