Fish Fry

Brief Description

Fish Fry is recipe which is made with white and fleshed fish. It is quick and easy to make.

Ingredients For Fish Fry

  • White and fleshed fish – 800g 
  • Ground turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mustard oil - 2/3 teaspoon
  • Grounded coriander seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Grounded cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon  
  • Finely grated ginger - 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Kalonji - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Dried red chilies - 4
  • Bay leaves - 2 
  • Peeled and chopped large onion - 1 
  • Green chilies -3

How To Make Fish Fry

  • Make pieces of fish about 4 cm in size.
  • Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric. Keep aside for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Heat little oil in a sauce pan over a low flame.
  • Add fish pieces and fry till it gets brown on both sides.
  • Gently take out the fish pieces from the oil and place it on a plate. Turn off the flame.
  • Take a small bowl. Mix cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, grounded seeds of coriander, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, chili powder, ginger, and water about 3 tablespoon.
  • Heat about 5/6 tablespoon of oil in a sauce pan over a low flame.
  • Add Kalonji and then red chilies to the pan.
  • As Kalonji and red chilies gets darken, add bay leaves to the pan.
  • As bay leaves starts darken, add onion to it, mix it well and fry the onion till its color changes to golden brown over a low flame.  
  • Now add the paste made of spices. Mix it well and fry for 1 minute.
  • Put the pieces of fish along with water about 1 cup.  
  • Add green chilies to the fish. Cook over a medium flame for about 2 minutes.
  • Add sauce over the pieces of fish and cover the pan with the lid and cook for about 10-15 minutes.

  • Fish fry recipe is treated as a base for other recipes.  You can add other ingredients also like Masala powder, ginger and garlic paste, etc
  • It won’t be too spicy if you serve it with plain boiled rice and dal.
  • Serve it with lemon and onion slices.
