Brief Description

Kandi pachadi is basically chutney of arhar dal. It is prepared with arhar dal and a few spices. It goes well as a side dish to rice and pranthas.

Ingredients For Kandi Pachadi

  • arhar dal- ½ cup
  • kashmiri red chillies- 4
  • cumin seeds- ½ tsp
  • garlic cloves- 4
  • salt as needed
  • oil- 1 tbsp
  • mustard seeds- ¼ tsp
  • 5 to 6 curry leaves
  • asafetida -a pinch

How To Make Kandi Pachadi

  • Take a microwave safe bowl and and cook arhar dal at 70% for 3 min while stirring every 30 seconds.
  • Once it has cooled down, put it into a blender with cumin seeds, salt and dry red chilies and blend them all together.
  • Heat some oil in a pan and add red chilies, mustard seeds asafetida and curry leaves. Let it all sizzle for a min.
  • Now pour this tempering all over the chutney.

Some Useful Tips

  • Serve it with hot plain rice and ghee.
  • To spice it up further you can add more chilies.
