Brief Description

Date chutney acts as a very good dip for very many recipes like pakoras etc. It can be prepared in combination with other fruits like apricot, apples or even tamarind for some tanginess.

Ingredients For Date Chutney

  • Dates-  ½ kg
  • fresh Ginger cut into thin long strips- 2 tsp
  • Salt- 4 tsp
  • Sugar- 1 cup
  • Raisins-  6 tsp
  • Vinegar - 2 cups
  • blanched Almonds- ¼ cup
  • Cloves- 2
  • Cardamoms- 2
  • ground Cinnamon- ¼ tsp
  • Red chili pepper-  ¼ tsp

How To Make Date Chutney

  • Stone the dates and cut them in halves. Cut the dates into half and remove their seeds.
  • Take a pan and add ginger, salt, ground spices, vinegar, chili powder and dates to it. Keep frying for a while.
  • Now add sugar and cook until the mixture thickens. Once the dates are soft add sugar and cook until the mixture has thickened.
  • Remove from the fire, add raisins, almonds slit into halves and stir well. Now take it off the heat and add slit almonds and raisins to it.
  • Pour the hot chutney straight in a jar for preserving purposes.
  • Serve after a few days.
