Carrot chutney is a wonderful alternative to coconut chutney. This sweet-n-spicy chutney goes really well with all kinds of Dosa and kids will absolutely love this bright orange chutney.

Ingredients For Carrot Chutney

  • 3 big carrots
  • 1 small piece of tamarind
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • 4 dried red chilies
  • A pinch of asafetida
  • Oil as needed
  • Salt as required

How To Make Carrot Chutney

  • Cut carrots into small pieces and boil them till they turn soft. It can also be done by putting carrots in a pressure cooker with a bit of water and let it cook for a 2 whistles. Let it cool once done.
  • Tamarind should be soaked in little water and then squeezed for extracting the pulp and juice. Rest of it should be discarded.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it. Let it splutter.
  • Put in urad dal and dried red chilies while stir frying continuously. Sprinkle asafetida.
  • Now take everything and use a blender/processor to churn it all up into a fine paste.
  • It can be served alongside bread, dosa and rice.
