Ingredients for Murgh Makhani

  • Marinade:

    • Boneless chicken pieces- 250g
    • Curd- ¼ cup
    • Ginger paste- ½ tsp
    • Garlic paste- ¼ tsp
    • Turmeric- a pinch
    • Salt to taste

    For Gravy:

    • Finely Chopped onion- ¼ cup (optional)
    • Ginger paste- ¼ cup
    • Garlic paste- ¼ tsp
    • Tomato paste/puree – 1 cup
    • Cashew paste- 1 tbsp
    • Kasoori methi- 1 tsp
    • Garam masala- 1 tsp
    • Chili powder- ½  tsp
    • Fresh cream- ¼ cup
    • Butter- 2 tbsp
    • Coriander leaves- 2 sprigs

How to make Murgh Makhani

  • Prepare the marinade and marinate the chicken pieces and keep it aside for 1 hour.
  • Take a pan and drop 1 tbsp butter in it. Fry the chicken pieces in it till they are 3/4th done.
  • Heat up the remaining butter and fry onions, garlic and ginger in it. Once the onions are golden brown add chili powder, kasoori methi and garam masala. Pour in the tomato paste, cashew paste, salt and chicken pieces. Cook with lid on till the gravy thickens. Drop in the cream and cook for 2 more minutes.
  • Garnish with corianders and serve hot.

Some Useful Tips

To make sure your homemade chili, garlic and ginger paste stays fresh for long add a tbsp of hot vegetable/ sunflower/ canola oil into it and mix well. Keep them in refrigerator and use when necessary.
