Kung Pao Chicken is a recipe in which chicken is stir fried in peanuts, chili peppers and vegetables with a lot of spices. Prepare Kung Pao Chicken at home by following these simple steps.

Ingredients for Kung Pao Chicken

  • Chicken breasts cut into pieces- 1 lb
  • White wine- 2 tbsp
  • Soy sauce- 2 tbsp
  • Sesame oil- 2 tbsp
  • Cornstarch dissolved in water (2 tbsp)- 2 tbsp
  • Hot chili paste- 1 ounce
  • Distilled white vinegar- 1 tsp
  • Brown sugar- 2 tsp
  • Chopped green onions- 4
  • Chopped garlic- 1 tbsp
  • Water chestnut- 8
  • Chopped peanuts- 4 ounces

How to make Kung Pao Chicken

  • For preparing the marinade: mix 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp wine, 1 tbsp cornstarch paste and 1 tbsp oil. Put in the chicken pieces and toss them so that they are coated evenly. Place the marinated chicken in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or so.
  • For preparing the sauce: take a small bowl and mix 1tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp wine, 1 tbsp cornstarch paste, vinegar, chili paste and sugar. Drop in garlic, green onions, peanuts and water chestnut. Pour all this in a pan and heat cook slowly till it is fragrant.
  • Take out the chicken and sauté in a large pan until meat is white. Then add the chicken pieces to the sauce and cook till the sauce thickens.

Some Useful Tips

    To make sure your homemade chili, garlic and ginger paste stays fresh for long add a tbsp of hot vegetable/ sunflower/ canola oil into it and mix well. Keep them in refrigerator and use when necessary.
