Brief Description

Chili chicken karahi is a spicy dish. As name suggests this dish contains different kind of chilies and peppers. It is served in a small karahi (wok).

Serves 4-6 serves

Ingredients for Chili Chicken Karahi

  • Chicken breast- 500g
  • Green chilies, slit- 4  
  • Oil to cook
  • Salt as needed
  • Chili powder- 1 tsp
  • Ginger paste- 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste- 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder- 2 tsp
  • Onion seeds- 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds, white- ½ tsp
  • Lemon juice- 2 tbsp
  • Chopped onions- 2
  • Chopped tomatoes- 2
  • Curry leaves- 5- 8
  • Chopped coriander leaves- 3 tsbp

How to make Chili Chicken Karahi

  • Marinate the chicken in garlic paste and lemon juice. Keep it aside for 20 min.
  • Take 2 chilies and remove their seeds and fry them and rest of chilies in oil.
  • Heat up a pan and pour some oil in it. Once oil is hot drop in cumin seeds, onion seeds and curry leaves and cook for 2 minutes. Add onions, garlic, ginger and remaining spices and cook for 4-5 minutes and make sure spices don’t get burned.
  • Put in chicken and fry till it is golden brown. Toss in tomatoes and cook on high flames for a few minutes. Put the lid on and cook further for 10-12 minutes.
  • It’s time to add fried chilies, coriander and remaining lemon juice and let it simmer for 5-6 minutes.
  • Garnish with julienned ginger and lemons and serve hot.

Some Useful Tips

    To make sure your homemade chili, garlic and ginger paste stays fresh for long add a tbsp of hot vegetable/ sunflower/ canola oil into it and mix well. Keep them in refrigerator and use when necessary.
