Brief Description

Chicken Tikka is a very famous Indian dish. It is essentially bits of chicken marinated in special spices. It is then skewered and grilled. For making chicken Tikka masala, a tasty gravy is prepared to put Chicken Tikka into.

Ingredients for Chicken Tikka Masala

  • Chicken breasts- 3
  • Olive/ groundnut oil- 4 tbsp
  • Cardamom pods- 5
  • Cinnamon stick- 5 cm
  • Chopped onions- 1 ½
  • Minced fresh ginger- 2 tsp
  • Minced garlic- 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder- 1 tsp             
  • Coriander powder- 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- ¾ tsp
  • Cayenne pepper- ½ - 1 tsp
  • Paprika- 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder- 1 tsp
  • Large tomato- 1
  • Tomato puree- 1 tbsp
  • Water- 150 ml
  • Salt as required
  • Coconut milk/ yoghurt- 1 cup
  • Fresh coriander for garnishing

Chicken Tikka Masala

How to make Chicken Tikka Masala

  • Take bowl and mix ginger, cumin, garlic, turmeric, garam masala, paprika, cayenne and coriander.
  • Heat up some oil in a pan on medium flames. Drop in cinnamon stick and cardamom pods. Fry them and remove from oil. Doing this will give oil a wonderful aroma and as well as flavor. Throw in chopped onions and keep stirring till they are brown.
  • Put in the already prepared masala paste and fry for a minute.
  • Drop in tomatoes and tomato puree. Keep stirring until the mixture is thoroughly combined.
  • Pour in water and then let it simmer for some time.
  • Taste the sauce and add salt or spices as needed.
  • Mix well and simmer for another 5 minutes. Add chicken cubes to this masala and mix well. Let it simmer for 10-12 minutes. Make sure chicken is cooked and tender. You can do that by using a sharp knife, if it goes inside and comes out clean then that mean it is done. You can further add coconut milk/ yoghurt to this to weaken the curry.
  • Decorate it with coriander and serve it.

Some Useful Tips

    For thicker and richer gravy cashew nut paste (soaks cashew nuts in water for an hour or so and grinds them) can be added while making the gravy. Fry it along with the spice powders and then proceed as above.
